Removing Wall Paper and Interior Painting Syracuse NY

This week Donigan Painting & Remodeling extended its stay at a new customers home.  After removing 4 rooms worth of multiple layers of wall paper we were called back to remove  additional rooms paper and apply a few coats of high quality paint.  Prior to beginning prep work we centered all each rooms furniture, removed switch/outlet covers, removed curtains and rolled out contractors paper to protect the hardwood flooring-molding.  A steamer and DIF wallpaper remover were used to get the wall paper and its paste of the walls.  Once the paper is removed the walls are thoroughly cleaned with hot water and a good scrubber.  Next joint compound is applied to float out any inconsistencies on the walls, then sanded and cleaned with hot water to remove any dust build up.  The areas are vacuumed and wiped down and then the magic begins.  Two coats of Benjamin Moore's Ultra Spec 500 were applied in a light grey eggshell finish.  On this job we also removed a rooms carpeting-pad-tack board and staples to reveal a beautiful oak floor beneath.  This home is going up for sale this week so we used a no voc paint so no paint smell will be present.  Most paints today have added this feature, no voc-volatile organic compounds, so that some of the noxious fumes associated with painting or priming are eliminated in case you have young children or are sensitive to this type of smell.  Call for a free estimate for your next project.  We show up on time and provide quick turn around.

Interior Painting Syracuse NY

Donigan Painting worked at a repeat customers home in Syracuse this week repainting their stairway hallway and entry hall.  Prior to painting wallpaper was removed and the ceiling was replaced with sheetrock to it's original height.  The ceiling was rocked, taped, mudded and primed before Benjamin Moore's Waterborne Ceiling Paint was applied in a light gray flat finish.  The stairway hall was painted 2x with Ben Moore's Ultra Spec 500 in a satin finish off-white.  All of the homeowners original oak molding was taped off with plastic and paper to protect it.  We also utilized plastic walls to minimize sheetrock dust from sanding and used an air filtration system to lower the volume of fine particles.  Areas where thoroughly cleaned after prep work and wiped down to remove fine dust.  We pride ourselves on getting the job done right the first time so we take it upon ourselves to go above and beyond to deliver high quality results at your home or business.

Painting Syracuse NY

This week Donigan Painting worked at an SU colonial home whose owners needed their living room, dining room and master bedroom painted before moving in.  The colors chosen where the opposite of what was initially on the walls.  In the living room a dark orange was changed to a dark charcoal grey, in the dining room the color was changed from a light lime green to a soft light green and in the master a baby blue was changed to a light green color.  The products used on this job were Benjamin Moore paints.  Specifically we used Ultra Spec 500 in satin finishes for the walls and their Waterborne Ceiling paint.  Since these clients had sensitivity to paint smells we used a no VOC paint so that no chemicals were present during this job.    Two coats where applied to all surfaces after the molding and floors where protected with drop clothes, tape, plastic and paper.  The owners were very happy with the results and we will be continuing work there in the very near future. Here are some pics of the results.

Interior Painting Syracuse NY

This week Donigan Painting worked on a 1920's Dutch colonial in Syracuse.  This customer had a large bedroom that had 3 layers of various wallpapers.  After spending two days steam stripping and water infusing the paper it was all removed to reveal plaster walls.  This repaint involved removing an entry way from another room, framing it out and sheet rocking the area.  A pull down door was also removed from the ceiling that led to the attic, framed and sheet rocked.  After applying a few rounds of joint compound the walls were latex primed and thoroughly sanded to a smooth to touch feel.  After taping out all the original oak molding, covering the floors, removing switch-outlet covers we were ready to paint.  One coat of Sherwin Williams Eminence flat bright white ceiling paint was applied to the ceiling and two coats of their Cashmere in a flat sheen called Abalone Shell was applied.  Flat was chosen for this application because typically in older homes that have plaster walls you will see all the inconsistencies throughout it with a higher sheen paint.  It also helps accentuate the custom molding.  Here are some pics of how this job went.

Interior Painting Syracuse NY

This week Donigan Painting repainted a large entry hallway on Syracuse's Northside.  This customer has had us working on their home the last 5 years.  Previously we had the pleasure of removing 2-layers of wallpaper in every room, skim coating all the walls, sanding them to smooth, applying one coat of primer and two coats finish paint.  Some of the older wallpaper required using a heavy duty steamer to remove it.  We also remodeled the first floor half bath with a new 6x6" tile floor, pedestal sink, new toilet and lighting.  The owner of this home installed new sheet rock and recessed lighting in this hallway entry prior to us painting.  On this job we used Benjamin Moore's Waterborne Acrylic Ceiling Paint in an off white and a
clay colored flat paint.  We chose a low sheen flat paint because the hallway gets a lot of natural light and the owner did not want the walls to shine.  The walls were painted with Bens Regal line of paint in a flat sheen. Donigan Painting also sanded and refinished the cedar clapboard, pictured, with a oil based semi-gloss polyurethane  We will be painting the exterior of the house in October. Here is how it turned out.

Manlius Dining room Repaint-Syracuse NY

This week Donigan Painting had the great fortune to be given another repaint from a repeat customer.  This week's customer had us repaint their vaulted ceilings and walls in their living room, kitchen, mudroom, laundry more recently.  Phyllis chose to use Benjamin Moore's Regal line in a flat pink color for her dining room.  The celling was taken from a flat white to Ben Moore's Waterborne Acrylic ceiling paint in Pearl Gray.  If you look closely in the pics provided you can see the difference in color on the ceiling.  As usual we centered furniture, covered furniture, taped off adjacent surfaces, removed switch/outlet plates, sanded the walls, filled nail holes-dings, protected their hardwoods.  Two coats were then applied to the walls and ceiling.  The staff at Purcell's Paints provides top notch service for all our painting needs.
