Looking to freshen up your homes interior with a paint job?   You've come to the right place.  When shopping for a contractor there are many things to take into consideration.  What are the advantages and disadvantages to different companies, what's your time frame, what's your budget are just a few.  Your home deserves a top quality paint job for a number of reasons. Many homeowners, myself included, take pride in their homes appearance.  A paint job will enhance it, protect it and add to it's value if done correctly.  When you start calling for estimates here are some tips.

Hiring a contractor is perhaps the most important decision you can make in any home improvement project. As a consumer, we recommend that you verify information and evaluate the professional for yourself.

Check Credentials When you make contact with contractors you're interested in hiring, ask them these questions:

  • How long have you been in business?
  • Do you subcontract your work or perform it yourself?
  • Do you have the proper/required licenses?
  • Do you have insurance?

Review Guarantees and Warranties
Make sure you obtain guarantees and warranties for contractor work in writing, including:

  • The types of problems covered, and how they will be handled.
  • Specifics on what is covered by your bill (such as workmanship and materials.)

Check References

  • Be sure to get at least three references from past customers.
  • Visit references to evaluate work in person, and to see how well it has held up over time.

Additional Questions
When you speak with potential contractors for your project, be sure to ask them who will perform the work—the contractor themselves, their employees, Also pay attention to the following signs and behaviors, which will help guide you in selecting the right contractor for your project:

  • Does the contractor project a sense of professionalism and experience?
  • Is the contractor courteous and business-like?
  • Is the contractor busy? (Good ones usually are.)
  • Does the contractor return phone calls and provide estimates in a timely manner?
  • Is the contractor on time for appointments?
  • Do you have a good rapport with the contractor?
  • Does the contractor seem interested in working with you?

Know What You Want
The more specific you are about your project and your needs with a contractor, the more precise your contractor's estimate will be.

It is a good idea to walk through the space to be painted with each potential contractor and to discuss your needs as well as any aspects of your project that could affect the price.

Residential structures, such as homes, apartments, and condominiums, face different challenges than commercial structures. In addition, consumers have different needs for the paint on their walls, such as how washable it is, mildew protection, color fade resistance, etc.

Many products perform better with more than one coat or with a primer, so be sure that your contractor provides an estimate that includes these factors.

Get at Least Three Estimates
When you receive contractor estimates, they should fall roughly within the same price range. If estimates are widely different from one another, be wary of contractors who bid too high or too low. Ask about what is not being done, and where corners are being cut.

Review Your Contract Take time to review your contract for work, and to ask questions about any details for which you need clarification. Be sure to ask about:

  • The specifics on what is to be painted (walls, trim, ceilings,  etc.)
  • Details on preparation and clean-up.
  • Paint and primer brands and colors that will be used.
  • How many coats of paint will be applied.
  • How your contractor will protect furniture, floors and other items in your home.
  • How much time the project will take from start to end.
  • When and how the contractor will be paid.

Interior Painting Syracuse NY

When it comes to maintaining your home an interior paint job can protect and enhance your homes value.  Whether you need one room or many rooms repainted you can count on Donigan Painting to go the extra mile to make sure it is done correctly, to the highest industry standards and with caring for your home like it's our own.  Choosing a professional painter who goes the extra mile will actually save you money and many headaches fixing the $199.99 a room painter who just trashed your house because you wanted to save a buck.  A high quality paint job by a professional painter may cost more but you will be receiving peace of mind and the service you deserve.  Let's explore why it makes sense to hire a professional.

http://doniganpainting.webstarts.com/

1.  An experienced professional painter can save you money on materials by buying the best product available.  Sure you can go to discount depot and buy the cheapest paint and equipment but you can bet your bottom dollar it will show until you repaint it correctly.  Using a superior product that is proven to be the best will cut the cost because you are not relying on mostly water to cover your walls.  Cheap paint and equipment performs exactly like it is.  It takes more to cover an area and creates more of a mess and is less durable.  The same goes for how it's being put on.  Is your pro going to tape out molding to prevent drips-splatter from ruining your bright white perfectly good trim?  Will they be sanding the walls to remove imperfections, nap hair, dirt and dust?  Will nail holes be filled?  Will cracks be caulked?  Are they priming and applying two coats so that your warranty applies?  Will they be removing hardware and switch/outlet covers instead of painting around them or worse over them?  Is moving your furniture included or is it up to you?  Are they protecting surfaces not being painted?  Will they be cleaning the area to be painted so that the paint adheres to your surface correctly?  All these what if's add up to will your paint job last and is it being done correctly?

2.  Being able to clearly understand what you are paying for should be obvious in the initial visit and in the written or typed quote you receive.  How detailed is the service you are receiving?  The details are what counts when your paying for a top notch pro.  When you meet with your pro are you left with more questions than answers?   If so that's a red flag.  How easy is it to communicate or reach them?  You can learn a lot by what you are receiving from the get go.  Do they answer their phone or return calls promptly?  Do they look and act professional?

3.  Can they provide references from customers?  Will they be offering you some type of waiver they made up or providing you with insurance coverage to protect you and them?  Generally speaking the first impression is what you are going to get on the job if you hire them.  We have all had a bad contractor experience in our life times.  You can prevent another one by asking plenty of questions, knowing what to expect and going with the read you get from meeting and conducting an initial interview and estimate with them.  If they are on time, look the part, provide a detailed quote and are showing respect for you and your home you may have a winner.

4.  Prices will vary greatly from one contractor to the next so get a bunch of quotes and see the differences.  In my experience there are many tell-tale signs when spotting the real pro.  Attention to detail, neatness, being courteous and using high quality products all point to that chicken dinner.  So when you are shopping for a painting contractor here in good old Syracuse NY make sure you are diligent in screening who you are trusting to maintain and enhance your homes value.  Paying less can cost you more than you think.  Just my two cents.

Hope this helps and good luck!
